In the ICC pitch and outfield process, if a pitch or outfield is found to be substandard, the venue is allocated some demerit points. Outfields deemed unsatisfactory by the match referee. If a venue reaches six demerit points, it is banned from hosting any international cricket for 12 months, 24 months in case of 12 demerit points. The points are valid for a period of five years.
