Naseem Shah sustained a shoulder injury while attempting to prevent a boundary during the first Super 4 stage match against Bangladesh in the 2023 Asia Cup.
The incident occurred in the seventh over when Shaheen Afridi bowled a length ball angling towards the leg, enticing Mohammad Naim to try a flick shot. However, the ball grazed off Naim’s pads and rolled behind the wicket. To stop the boundary, Naseem sprinted from the acceptable leg position and slid to his left, but inadvertently brushed against the boundary rope while successfully pulling the ball back. After this courageous attempt, Naseem found himself lying on his stomach and immobile. His teammate, Rizwan, quickly rushed to his aid. It became apparent that Naseem had overextended his right shoulder during the slide. Although he managed to stand up after a few minutes, he was positioned beyond the boundary ropes. Mohammad Haris was called upon as the substitute fielder, and Naseem was subsequently removed from the field.
Naseem Shah’s discomfort was evident as he received medical attention in the pavilion, with the physiotherapist tending to him. Naseem bowled three overs, securing a single wicket while conceding 22 runs before leaving the field.
However, the fast bowler returned to the field after being sidelined for six overs.”
